Dr. Don Hoover has been the owner and medical director of Westside Animal Hospital since moving to Durham in 1992. He attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and received his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 1985. He was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. He has a special interest in dentistry, oral surgery and otology.
He enjoys cycling and fishing in his spare time, as well as spending time with his wife, 6 kids and his two dogs Daisy (pictured here) and Pickle.
Dr. Maia Broussard is a graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner, certified PennHIP radiologist, and a member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. She has a BA in Anthropology and a BS in Geology from Ohio University, and an MS in Geology from Duke University where she was a James B Duke Fellow.
Dr. Broussard has worked in small animal veterinary hospitals for almost 20 years, and has had animals in her life for as long as she can remember. After graduation she practiced in a referral physical rehabilitation hospital for over a year, and also has additional experience and training in behavior medicine.
Dr. Broussard is dedicated to making and keeping your pet a happy and healthy family member for as long as possible. Her special interests include preventative/wellness care, pain management, behavioral wellness and problem resolution, weight management, and rehabilitative therapy. She is particularly excited by the opportunities offered by new and alternative modalities such as acupuncture and class 4 therapeutic laser.
When not working, Dr. Broussard enjoys spending time with her dog River, and her cat Leo. Outdoor interests include volleyball, rock climbing, hiking, and kayaking. Indoors, she loves to cook and read. Dr. Broussard is on the Board of Directors of Eyes, Ears, Nose and Paws, an assistance dog organization based in Carrboro (please visit us from the links section!) and occasionally writes a veterinary column for the Durham Herald Sun.
