Welcome to Westside Animal Hospital
Dr. Don Hoover has been the owner and medical director of Westside Animal Hospital since moving to Durham in 1992. He attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and received his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 1985. He was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. He has a special interest in dentistry, oral surgery and otology.
He enjoys cycling and fishing in his spare time, as well as spending time with his wife, 6 kids and his two dogs Tiger and Daisy. Daisy (pictured here) is the most recent addition to the ever expanding Hoover family.

Because of the lifespan of our pets, we stress the
importance of an annual physical examination.
Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help
alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide
range of veterinary services to keep your
companions feeling their best.
Surgery
Routine procedures such as spay and neutering, as
well as specialized procedures including orthopedic
and emergency/trauma surgeries.
Anesthesia and analgesia to assure the safe and
pain-free treatment of your pet. We utilize the safest
available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of
safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients.
Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital
signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.
Comprehensive Dentistry
Including scaling and polishing, treatment of tooth and
gum problems, evaluations and preventative dentistry,
oral surgery, detailed instructions and demonstration
to owners for home care.
Pharmacy /Laboratory
On site services and neighboring retail pharmacies to
fill and refill prescriptions. Laboratory,
electrocardiography, radiology, and ultrasound
capabilities for rapid and accurate evaluation,
diagnosis and treatment options.
Board-Certified Specialists
Consultation with Board-Certified Specialists from the
Veterinary School at North Carolina State University
and other area specialists, hospitals and clinics.

Dr.Maia Broussard is a 2003
graduate of the North Carolina
State University College of
Veterinary Medicine, and a
Certified Canine Rehabilitation
Practitioner. She has a BA in
Anthropology and a BS in
Geology from Ohio University,
and an MS in Geology from
Duke University where she was
a James B Duke Fellow.
Dr. Broussard has worked in a
small animal veterinary hospital
for 14 years, and has had
animals in her life for as long as
she can remember. After
graduation she practiced in a
referral rehabilitation and
wellness hospital for over a
year, and has also had
additional experience in
behavioral medicine.
Dr. Broussard's special
interests include
preventative/wellness care,
pain management, behavioral
wellness and
problem resolution, weight
management, and
rehabilitative therapy.
When not working, Dr. Broussard
enjoys spending time with her dogs
Sophie and River, and her cat Leo.
Outdoor interests include volleyball,
hiking, and kayaking. Indoors, she
loves to cook and read.
